Saree Care
Know your saree
- Dyed sarees may look slightly lighter when you purchase due to the starch and the colour may deepen with wash.
- It is perfectly normal for some sarees to run colour for a few washes.
- Cotton sarees lose stiffness and become soft once washed. They can be lightly ironed and worn as it is for a soft drape or mild starch can be used while washing if you prefer a crisp drape.
- Using mild starch during washing and ironing in moderate heat will keep the saree looking new for longer.
Do’s
- Always check new sarees thoroughly for any weaving defects before washing.
- A patch test by soaking a small patch and gently wringing it is recommended to see if the saree runs colour. If it does, wash it separately to prevent the dye from sticking to other clothes.
- To remove excess starch from your new saree, soak the saree in lukewarm water for about half an hour and wash it with good-quality detergent.
- To machine wash the saree, make sure the saree does not run colour and use the specified cycle for cotton.
- Hand washing is recommended for some sarees. Machine washing can damage it irreversibly. Make sure to ask our sales representative before purchasing.
Dont's
- Do not wring the sarees too tightly after washing. Fold the saree to a manageable size and squeeze gently to remove the excess water.
- Do not dry the saree in direct sunlight as it will bleach it over time making the saree look faded. Dry them in an airy, shaded area instead.
- Do not use brushes to scrub the saree.
